Sunday morning fire claims a life

Lawrenceburg Now

A fire in Western Lawrence County claimed the life of a local man Sunday morning.

Officials with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department indicate that the fire,  involving a shop building with an upstairs apartment, occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. at 347 Shotwell Road, near the Gore Road intersection.

Jesse Irby, age 67, who had resided at the home for sixteen years, was transported from the scene to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Lawrenceburg, and later died. Officials said that Irby had a pacemaker. He was attempting to extinguish the fire and collapsed on the back porch.

Along with the sheriff's department, members of the West End, Crawfish Valley, Henryville, and Gandy Fire Departments responded to the call.
