Mailbox Destruction Arrest Made
Law enforcement officials indicate that they have been able to identify and arrest an individual responsible for mailbox bombings reported in the area.
A press release issued through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday indicates that twenty-two year old Jackie Lee Hunt, of 202 Frank Street, Lawrenceburg, was taken into custody on two counts of arson and two counts of vandalism over $1,000.
Detectives indicate that the investigation into explosions that destroyed two mailboxes in April of 2014 had stalled after several suspects were cleared. It was not until a third explosion was reported on February 21 that they were able to identify Hunt as a suspect. He was arrested on Sunday and booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center.
Detectives report that additional suspects are believed to have been involved in the third bombing incident. More arrests are expected in the near future.
Hunt was released from custody after posting a $4,000 bond. He will be required to answer the charges against him through Lawrence County General Sessions Court. The cases currently remain under investigation.
