Man Gives False Info, Assaults Officers, And Flees
A man who provided police officers with false personal information last week was incarcerated after assaulting two of the officers, then leading them on a foot chase in an effort to avoid arrest.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that Tavaris Lamar Carter, age 23, of 216 Lawrence Street, Lawrenceburg was incarcerated under multiple charges.
Officers report that they were dispatched to a Third Street home around 4:30 a.m. after reports regarding a loud party were received. They report that when they arrived, Carter was standing outside of a car that was parked in the roadway. He told officers that there had been a small party, but that everyone was getting ready to leave.
Central Dispatch advised officers that there were active warrants on file for Carter. He told them, however, that “this happened to him one other time and it was a mistake.” He reportedly gave officers a false birth date and claimed that he had no identification on his person.
The reporting officer requested that a photo of Carter be brought to the scene. He noted that he was exhibiting nervous behavior. The officer asked whether the car beside which he was standing belonged to him.
Carter told him it did not, but that he had placed his jacket inside. When the officer looked in, he noticed a wallet lying on the rear floor. He retrieved it and found that it contained Carter’s identification, which noted his correct birth date.
At this point, officers report that Carter became very aggressive. He reportedly shoved to offices out of this way then fled on foot. The officers pursued him. They report that one officer deployed his taser, but that it did not strike Carter.
They said that it took around twenty minutes before they were able to apprehend him. Emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene to check Carter for symptoms of fatigue.
Once Carter was cleared by EMS, he was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. There, he was booked under charges of evading arrest, giving false information, and two counts of aggravated assault. He was jailed under a bond of $55,000.
Carter is scheduled to answer the charges in General Sessions Court on April 2, 2015.
