Qualifiers announced for May Primary

A number of individuals have met qualification requirements allowing them to compete in the county’s May, and August, elections.

Numerous county offices will appear on the ballot in the County General election in August, however the qualifying deadline for those who are running for an office that requires participation in the Republican and Democratic Primary election has already passed.

Republican candidates who have qualified for both the May 1 County Primary and August 2 County General Election include Jarvis Curtis and John C. Myers who are both seeking election as Lawrence County Sheriff. Incumbent candidates T.R. Williams (County Executive) and Donnie Joe Brown (Road Superintendent) are both unopposed in their bid for re-election.

Qualifiers for the Primary and County General ballots on the Democratic side include incumbent candidates Jimmy Brown (sheriff) and Chuck Kizer (County Court Clerk). Kizer is opposed by candidate Nick Moore. Incumbent Circuit Court Clerk Debbie Riddle is seeking re-election unopposed, as is incumbent Lawrence County Trustee Kiley Weathers.

Two persons qualified as Independent candidates. As Independents, they are not required to participate in the primary election therefore their names will appear only on the County General ballot in August. These include incumbent Register of Deeds Teresa Dunkin who is unopposed, and Rick Osborn, who is running for sheriff.
