Car plunges into retention pond during domestic dispute
Lawrenceburg Now
UPDATE
A Nashville man was arrested Monday in the wake of a domestic violence incident that resulted in a car plunging into the Hicks Street retention pond.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were initially dispatched to intervene in a domestic assault in-progress in the parking lot of a North Locust Avenue business.
While en route, they were informed that the man involved had forced the woman into a car and that they had left the premises. Dispatchers said they were last seen traveling south on Remke Avenue.
Officers located the vehicle, submerged in the water retention pond situated between Hicks and Jackson Streets. Officials indicate that the driver had been traveling too fast to negotiate the near-ninety degree curve.
Reports show that both occupants had been able to escape the car and were in the water. Police officers were able to rescue the pair and called for emergency medical personnel to be dispatched to the scene. Both were transported by the Lawrence County Ambulance Service to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg.
The man involved, identified as Broderick Jerome Johnson, age 36, of Quail Valley Road, Nashville, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, then released. He was subsequently arrested on a charge of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration. He has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on March 12, 2018.
Reports show that the female driver, and domestic assault victim, forty-seven year old Yunita Latice Cedeno of Second Street, Lawrenceburg sustained more serious injuries. She was transported for more extensive treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Divers with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department were able to attach a cable to the submerged vehicle, allowing it to be pulled from the pond.
Officers conducted a standard search of the car and recovered Cedeno’s wallet and purse. They report that there was some aluminum foil inside the wallet that contained a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. A glass pipe, commonly used to smoke narcotics, was seized from her purse along with a set of digital scales a second glass pipe that were found in the trunk.
As a result of the search of the car, officers issued citations to Cedeno, charging her with simple possession of Schedule II narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also cited for traffic violations. She is expected to answer the charges in General Sessions Court on April 6, 2018.
