Snake Slithers Out Of Recliner During Drug Search
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers were surprised when a snake slithered out of a recliner while they searching for drugs inside a Springer Road home.
Officers with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department had served a search warrant at 2114 Springer Road, apartment B-15, the home of Hope Blocker. During the search, department officials report seizing baggies containing white crystals believed to be methamphetamine, a box of lidocaine patches, and various items of drug paraphernalia.
Blocker was arrested on charges that include possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of resale, possession of lidocaine without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
During the search, agents report that an investigator lifted a recliner in the living room and a large brown snake slithered from underneath the cushion, onto the floor. Another investigator identified the snake as a red tail boa constrictor and placed it into a tote.
Blocker told investigators that a friend had brought the snake to her home a few weeks prior, and it had escaped from the cage. She said that she had seen no sign of it since, leading her to believe that it had escaped from the apartment entirely. She requested that the snake be removed from her apartment, telling investigators that “she was scared of it.” The apartment manager also requested that the snake be removed from the premises.
Investigators report that an individual outside of the department has adopted the snake and it is doing well.
