Several mailboxes stolen in Summertown area

Lawrenceburg Now

A Summertown couple discovered Monday that their mailbox had been stolen and quickly learned that they had not been the only victims.

The residents of Cummings Road reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department that they had made the discovery at around 8:45 that morning. They said as they left their property, heading to Lawrenceburg, they found that someone had "just grabbed the mailbox which was mounted onto a 4x4 post and pulled it from the ground, and left with it."

The couple had no idea who might have committed the crime. They said that they spoke with postal officials and learned that a number of mailboxes in the area had been stolen during the previous weekend.

Loss in this case was estimated to be $50. Anyone who has information about any of the crimes should contact the sheriff's department at 931-762-3626.
