Lawrenceburg Project in the Running for Statewide Award

West Bypass competes for top engineering prize

The Lawrenceburg West Bypass (US 64/SR 15), by HMB Professional Engineers, Inc., is among projects being considered in the 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards competition, presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC Tennessee).

The award is one of the highest honors a project team can receive and is considered the “Academy Awards of the engineering industry.”

HMB designed the US 64/SR 15 Lawrenceburg West Bypass with an emphasis on the new roadway fitting into its natural surroundings. The pavement used is recycled asphalt, which is skid-resistant and drains well.

The design included sight lines and erosion control. HMB worked with TDOT, Vaughn Contractors, and The Rogers Group to complete the project under budget. The bypass opened in the summer of 2015.

More than 25 project entries from across the state are up for consideration. The winners of the 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards will be announced on the evening of Tuesday, March 7, during an awards gala at the Franklin Marriott Cool Springs, Franklin. In 2016, The TDOT Fast Fix 8 project, completed by Nashville engineering firm Gresham, Smith and Partners, won the top prize.
