Homeowners Experience Considerable Loss In Recent Burglary
The owners of a Summertown property recently reported a considerable loss after discovering that the home had been burglarized.
The owners of the 1466 Turnpike Road property recently reported a break-in to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. They said they had been in the process of evicting the tenants and had arrived to find that the garage doors had been opened.
The persons responsible had attempted to make entry through a side garage door, breaking the door facing away from the side of the house. Deputies could see that the back door had been kicked numerous times, ripping the door facing and breaking off the doorknob.
Inside, owners discovered that kitchen cabinets had been opened and numerous cleaning items taken. A hole had been busted in one wall. In a bedroom they found that the mattress had been thrown off the bed and the room pretty much destroyed.
The culprit had moved an entertainment center away from the wall, but had left the television set where it was. Cleaning products had been stolen from beneath a bathroom sink and a package of D-Con rat traps had been opened. Two of the traps had been stolen, the third left inside the package.
Outdoors, the owners said that around 150 concrete paving stones had been stolen from along both sides of the driveway. A two-man deer stand was missing along with two saddles from the garage. They said that they had found a pile of scrap metal that had been discarded at one corner of the house.
The following day the homeowners reported other items that had been stolen, as well. They said that a treadmill was missing, as were three bicycles.
Altogether, the owners reported approximately $3,000 worth of loss and damages. Investigation into the crime is currently on-going. Anyone who has pertinent information should contact the department at 931-762-3626.
