Door Kicked In When Arrestee Refused To Allow Entrance To Deputies
Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies were forced to kick in a door last week when the person against whom they were serving an arrest warrant, refused to allow them entry into his home.
Deputies report that when they knocked on the door of the 218 Byrd Road residence of twenty-six year old Richard Taz Davis, he pulled back the curtains and made eye contact with them then went back to what he was doing.
Deputies report that they knocked on the door repeatedly, calling to Davis that they were deputies, had an arrest warrant, and needed him to open the door. He refused to comply. After a time they warned Davis that if he continued to refuse to open the door, they would be forced to kick it open.
When he again refused, they report they kicked open the door. They said Davis walked down the hallway and was ordered to the floor. They report that he became complaint at that time, following instructions.
Once Davis was in custody, deputies fixed the door as best they could. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration to await an appearance in General Sessions Court.
