Officers intercede in disturbance where shots were fired
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg Police officers were called upon to intercede in an outdoor dispute Sunday evening where witnesses said shots were fired.
Officers answered the call to a home on Spring Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. The complainant had reported that a number of people were fighting in front of the residence and that weapons were involved.
Several individuals who had been involved in the dispute reported that it had evolved around money owed to two men from Hohenwald. A resident reported that he had borrowed money from one of the two men, but that he had repaid the entire amount. He told officers that the men had driven from Hohenwald to confront him, claiming that he had not repaid his debt.
Officers interviewed the individuals at the home along with witnesses. They were also able to speak with one of the Hohenwald residents by phone.
Persons at the home reported that during the dispute one of the men had walked away, then returned “with what looked like an assault rifle with a banana clip in it.” They said that they all fled inside of the house, but that three shots were fired. Neighbors also reported hearing gunfire.
The Hohenwald resident told the officer that he had heard gunfire, as well, but that neither he nor his companion had fired the shots. He claimed that the male resident had actually pulled a gun on him and his cousin. He said that his cousin then “pulled his phone out and pretended it was a gun for self-defense.”
Investigation in the case is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division as detectives attempt to determine whether charges will result from the matter.
