Council Approves Purchase Of Five New Police Cars
Members of Lawrenceburg’s city council have approved the purchase of five new vehicles for use by the city’s police department.
During a meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council Thursday morning Assistant Police Chief Darren Goolsby explained that the resolution would allow the purchase of five 2015 Ford Police Interceptor sedans.
The cars are to be obtained from Golden Circle Ford at the state bid price of $22,459.59 apiece, and will be financed through First Volunteer Bank at an interest rate of 2.73%. The sale of interest-bearing capital outlay notes is not to exceed $112,500.
Also approved was a resolution to authorize the request for bids on equipment to outfit the cars, along with costs associated with installation.
Goolsby said that the cars will be basic, and that they will need to be outfitted with the proper equipment. He said some of the items that must be purchased include consoles, push bumpers, partitions, protective bars for the back glass, light bars and other lights, sirens, controller modules, and radios.
He said that they will be able to swap over the current camera system, antennas, and some other items, but that many items are not compatible with the older Crown Victoria units.
Goolsby said that once the cars are delivered it will take around two weeks to complete equipment installation. They are currently taking bids on the necessary striping, as well. He said they hope to have the units in service by the end of March.
