Disability checks stolen from victim’s mailbox

Lawrenceburg Now

A Leoma resident sought assistance from law enforcement officers Monday after confirming that disability checks mailed to her former address were stolen, then cashed.

The victim explained to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that she recently had surgery and was supposed to receive disability compensation through the mail from her insurance company. After several days had passed and she did not receive the two checks she contacted the company. Representatives informed her that the checks had been mailed, and that their records indicated that both had already been cashed.

The victim told deputies that she had recently moved, but that she still received her mail at her previous address on Blooming Grove Road. She said she suspects that the checks were taken out of her mailbox there. Loss was approximately $500.

Reports indicate that the investigation will be continued by investigators with the sheriff’s department as well as the insurance company.
