Local woman arrested as fugitive from Virginia

A resident of Lawrenceburg was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop Tuesday, as well as a fugitive from justice charge stemming from the State of Virginia.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department initiated the traffic stop at around 6:40 p.m. after the driver nearly caused a traffic accident.

Officers report that the driver, identified as twenty-seven year old Crystal Jean Wirt, of 1109 North Locust Avenue, appeared to be extremely nervous. She was unable to provide identification when asked to do so.

Officers soon learned through Lawrence Central Dispatch that Wirt’s driver’s license was invalid.

They also found that there was an outstanding warrant against her issued through Montgomery County, Virginia. The warrant stemmed from a violation of probation charge connected to a previous felony conviction for accommodation.

Officers obtained consent to conduct a search of Wirt’s vehicle. During the search they seized .5 grams of methamphetamine and one gram of marijuana.

Wirt was arrested on charges of driving on a revoked license, possession of Schedule II narcotics, possession of Schedule VI narcotics, and being a fugitive from justice.

She was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center and scheduled an appearance in General Sessions Court for March 3, 2017.

Authorities in Christiansburg, Virginia indicated that they will extradite Wirt to face charges there, as well.
