Iron City man draws fifteen year sentence in Lauderdale County

An Iron City man has received a fifteen year prison sentence on charges he faced in Lauderdale County, Alabama.

Indictments were returned against Patrick Joseph Sherwood, age 46, of 53 Railroad Bed Road in August of 2015 charging him with first degree financial exploitation of the elderly and failure to register as a sex offender.

At the time, he was living in Lauderdale County. He was accused of exploiting money from his then-eighty-one year old landlord.

Sherwood was found guilty on the exploitation charge in Lauderdale County Circuit Court in November and entered a guilty plea to the failure to register charge earlier this month.

On Tuesday a judge handed down fifteen year sentences on each of the two charges, ordering that they run concurrently to one another.
