Thomas Street Resident Arrested For Stealing Neighbor’s Laptop
Lawrenceburg Now
A Thomas Street resident was arrested late last week on charges that he entered a neighbor’s home, stealing a laptop computer.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were called to a Thomas Street home by a resident at around 2:25 Friday afternoon. The resident told officers that another resident, forty-nine year old Michael Keith Tidwell, had come into their home the previous morning with a laptop in his hands. He said that the computer was likely stolen from a neighbor’s home across the street.
When questioned, officers report that Tidwell told them he had not stolen the computer, but had “found it in the woods” behind his neighbor’s home.
The reporting officer indicates that he ran a check on the serial number and found that it had not been reported stolen. He was able to open up the computer and obtain a man’s name. He ran a check on the license plate of a vehicle at the home in question and found that it belonged to the same man.
Officers made contact with the victim who told them that the computer did, in fact, belong to him. He said that he had not realized it had been stolen. He had thought that it had been moved by his wife to another location.
Tidwell was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and theft of property and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He allegedly confessed to officers that he had gone inside his neighbor’s home and stole the laptop, which was returned to the owner.
Tidwell was held in lieu of a bond of $11,000. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on March 3, 2016.
