Service Of Warrant Results In Additional Charges Of Burglary, Evading Arrest
Additional charges of burglary and evading arrest were issued against a local man last week when deputies attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies went to a home on Leoma Road Thursday to serve warrants for two counts of violation of probation and one count of failure to appear in court to Daniel Shane Newton, age 42.
Deputies report that upon their approach they could see Newton sitting at the kitchen table. When they knocked, they report that Newton came to the door, looked out of the blinds, then returned to his seat at the table and ignored them.
After some time, they report that a family member unlocked the door and let them inside. The family members said that Newton had been told not to return to the residence. A note had been posted on the door informing Newton that, should he return, charges would be sought against him. Deputies report that Newton gained entry by forcing open a door, causing around $200 worth of damage.
Reports indicate that Newton appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest. Deputies report that he was uncooperative, struggling against being handcuffed and pulling away repeatedly. They were forced to restrain him on the floor.
Newton was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where warrants were issued charging him with the additional crimes of aggravated burglary, vandalism, and resisting arrest.
