Serving of warrant alerts resident that her identity was fraudulently used during a recent arrest

It was not until deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant that a local woman discovered that a relative had used her identity when she was caught shoplifting recently.

The victim, a twenty-six year old Summertown woman, filed a complaint with Lawrenceburg Police officers last week. She reported that her cousin had been detained in mid-December in connection with a shoplifting incident that occurred at the Lawrenceburg Walmart store. Instead of providing deputies with her personal information, her cousin had used the victim’s identity. She even signed her cousin’s name on the citation she was issued.

The victim said that she only became aware of the situation when Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies came to her home to serve a warrant for failure to appear in General Sessions Court.

Walmart security personnel were able to provide video that supported the victim’s claim. Charges are pending against the cousin for identity theft, fraud, and forgery.
