Victim says contractor took money but won't work
Lawrenceburg Now
A Garland Road resident filed a report with Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies on Tuesday, indicating that his contractor had taken his money, but would not do the work he was hired to do.
According to the victim, he had paid a contractor $1,000 he said he would need up front "to get started" on remodeling his home. He said a short time later the contractor requested more money, and he paid him an additional $4,600.
The victim told deputies that the contractor had last worked on his home the day before Thanksgiving. He said that, since that time, he had called him repeatedly but had been unable to get in touch with him. He said that he will not answer his text messages or calls.
The victim also told the deputy that he had been contacted by representatives of a Lawrenceburg lumber company about a bill. They said that the contractor had opened an account in his name to obtain supplies.
Around this time, the victim said he realized that some tools had gone missing, including a skil saw and three heavy duty extension cords. The items had a combined value of $570.
The deputy told the victim that he would file the complaint regarding the stolen items, but that he would need to seek restitution for the remaining $5,600 through civil court.
