Boyfriend jailed for kidnapping, domestic assault
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies dispatched to intervene in a domestic altercation last week obtained warrants against a man involved, charging him with assault and kidnapping.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the Brush Creek Road home at 6:15 p.m. They made contact with witnesses who reported that the couple involved had left in a maroon color SUV.
At 8:15 p.m. deputies were dispatched back to the area to meet with the victim at the Dollar General Store located on Scenic Road.
The victim, age 52, told deputies that she and she and her boyfriend, forty-eight year old Hollis Clay Brewer, had been engaged in an altercation earlier in the day during which he struck her on the head with a coffee mug. Deputies noted that she had sustained a knot and bruising on her forehead. She said that “she got scared because Brewer told her to get dressed and dress warm.” She said that he has used these words in the past before taking her into the woods and beating her.
The victim said she asked a female witness for a ride, but that she told her “she couldn’t because Brewer would kill her.” Instead, she told her to go through the woods to a neighbor’s home for help. She said that she did as the woman instructed and was let inside the home of a neighbor. It was at that point that she had called for help from law enforcement.
The victim said she heard Brewer beating on the doors of the neighbor’s home. When he was not allowed inside, she said he gained entry through a window. He then pulled her by the hair, forcing her into the vehicle once again. She told deputies that he habitually drags her by her hair and deputies noted that she had “visible bald spots on her head.”
Once they were inside the vehicle, the victim reports that Brewer told her “they were on the run now” because deputies had been to their house. She said that at this point “she was scared to death.”
The victim said that Brewer instructed her to drop him off on the roadside, then “go home and cover her bruises up with makeup and go call the cops…and tell them everything was a big misunderstanding.” She said that, instead, she drove to the store and asked employees to call for help.
Deputies were unable to make contact with Brewer that night, but returned to his home two days later in an attempt to serve warrants they had obtained against him. They report that when they pulled into the driveway he fled through the back door and they were forced to pursue him.
Brewer was quickly apprehended and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of aggravated domestic assault, kidnapping, and evading arrest. Bond was set at $46,000 bond.
