Charges Issued For Talking To Prisoner In Court
Lawrenceburg Now
A Bell Buckle, Tennessee woman was arrested in Lawrence County General sessions Court recently when she refused to stop speaking with a prisoner and caused repeated disruptions.
A Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy who had been tasked with security duty in the courtroom reported noticing a female, later identified as twenty-seven year old Amber Laree Rose of 4201 Midland Fosterville, Bell Buckle, in the general audience. He said that she had taken a seat on the front row, close to some inmates who were situated in the jury box.
The deputy notes that he and a corrections officer overseeing the inmates had warned Rose multiple times that she was not allowed to speak with the inmates however they report that she refused to comply.
When the inmate with whom Rose was speaking was brought before the judge the deputy reports that she kept “interrupting the judge and speaking out of turn.” She was ordered to stop, but would not. As a result, she was told to leave the courtroom. Reports show that she “eventually left.”
Shortly thereafter, the reporting officer notes that Rose re-entered the courtroom. He reports that she “walked directly behind where the Assistant District Attorney was seated and began trying to talk with” the inmate once again. The deputy again ordered her to leave, and explained the consequences she would face, should she elect not to comply.
The deputy reports that Rose walked to the rear of the courtroom, but did not leave as directed. He indicates that she “stood there at the door defiantly and smiled at officers, still not exiting as directed. Once they placed her under arrest, he says that she “became more belligerent and defiant…and officers had to physically remove her from the area.”
Reports show that Rose continued to be “hostile and belligerent to officers” and that she “eventually had to be placed inside the holding cell before officers could complete their processing. Rose did continue to cause a disturbance by shouting and beating on the cell doors of the jail, and by yelling out unsubstantiated statements, along with demanding unreasonable requests and actions of corrections officers.”
Rose was booked under a charge of disorderly conduct and held in lieu of a $5,000 bond. She was scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on February 16, 2016.
