Driver charged with drug offenses
Lawrenceburg Now
A driver was charged with drug offenses in the wake of a traffic stop made by a Lawrence County Sheriff's deputy on Buffalo Road last week.
Department reports show that a deputy initiated the traffic stop after noticing a car with a headlight out. The deputy reports that driver Kristopher Scott Flatt, age 19, of 2118 Dawn Avenue, Lawrenceburg was able to produce his driver's license, but no registration or proof of insurance.
The deputy asked about any illegal contraband inside of the vehicle. He reports that Flatt initially denied any, then admitted that he "had a little weed inside his backpack."
Flatt allowed the deputy to conduct a search of the backpack and vehicle. During the search the deputy reports finding inside the backpack, a plastic container with several syringes and a glass jar that held a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. He also seized a small glass container that held a white crystal substance. He asked Flatt what the substance was and reports that he responded, "Ice."
As a result of the discovery Flatt was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He was incarcerated under charges of simple possession of marijuana, simple possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued citations for violation of the light law and failure to provide proof of insurance.
