New traffic signal approved on North Locust Avenue
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg leaders approved a resolution Thursday morning that will allow the installation of a new traffic signal on North Locust Avenue.
Members of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Council have received a number of requests during the past several years to install a traffic signal at the shopping center which now houses Save-A-Lot, Sears, Dollar Tree and Goodwill Industries.
Citing the difficulty of exiting from the shopping plaza onto North Locust Avenue, council members have decided to move forward with the project.
Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham pointed out, “This is the only shopping center we have that has no traffic control.” He said that they will work with Lawrenceburg Utility Systems to synchronize as much as possible with the signal situated at the Kroger shopping center.
Council members asked Lawrenceburg Police Chief Terry Beecham whether he believed the signal would be beneficial to motorists. He responded, “I believe it’s necessary.”
The traffic signal will be installed at the northwestern exit of the shopping center, in front of Save-A-Lot. The council plans to move forward with the project as soon as possible.
