Lawrenceburg Mayor Blake Lay Appointed to TML Standing Policy Committee
LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn
. –Lawrenceburg Mayor Blake Lay was recently appointed to the Tennessee Municipal League’s (TML) new Standing Policy Committee. He is one of only three district director representatives invited to serve on the committee.

The TML Board of Directors voted in November to create the Standing Policy Committee for the purposes of fully exploring issues and questions of relevance to municipalities, seeking solutions to immediate challenges as they arise, reviewing and commenting on legislation, developing and proposing policy initiatives, and for taking deep dives into future issues. The Policy Committee will oversee and coordinate the activities of the four subcommittees and serve as the primary conduit for information shared between these subcommittees and the TML Board of Directors.

The Policy Committee is responsible for reviewing and responding to items referred by the TML Board of Directors or the TML Executive Director. The Committee will also receive and review annual reports of the TML Policy Subcommittees and prepare and present an annual report to the TML Board of Directors, summarizing the activities and actions of the committee and its subcommittees and recommend initiatives for consideration by the TML Board of Directors.

“TML’s work is invaluable to the cities in Tennessee, giving all municipalities across the state a voice on Capitol Hill,” Lay said. “It is my honor and privilege to serve on the Standing Policy Committee and help make the League stronger and more effective, ensuring that we are serving and protecting the interests of our communities and the municipal officials who lead them.”

Founded in 1940 and based in Nashville, TML is a nonprofit organization founded by cities and towns for mutual assistance and improvement. Representing 99 percent of Tennessee’s municipal citizens, the organization advocates for needed legislative action by the General Assembly, represents municipal interests before state departments and agencies, and seeks to influence federal legislation and policies affecting municipal governments—working through the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C.

Lay is in his second year serving as director of TML’s District 6.
