Crew of Leoma business injured in Alabama explosion

Authorities in Alabama report that employees of Leoma’s Gentry Drilling, Inc. were airlifted from the scene of an explosion that occurred Friday afternoon.

The crew was reportedly drilling a well at a farm in Franklin County, Alabama, near Russellville when they apparently hit a pocket of natural gas, triggering the explosion. Three men who sustained burns were airlifted from the scene to the Burn Center at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Authorities said that the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Authorities said that fire and gas company crews were working at the scene in the hopes of extinguishing the resulting blaze. They said that residents of the area were being evacuated as a precautionary measure.
