Couple draws guns on one another during domestic altercation
Lawrenceburg Now
Police officers intervened in a domestic altercation Tuesday afternoon during which a husband and wife drew guns on one another.
No arrests were made in the altercation which occurred at the couple’s home on West Road.
The female victim, age 50, told officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department that she had run errands and returned home when her forty-one year old husband began to question her regarding her whereabouts. She said she attempted to explain to him that she was trying to do something special for his upcoming birthday, but that he became irate.
The woman said that her husband grabbed her cell phone and that each time she attempted to take it back he twisted her arm behind her back. She said he pushed her to the floor, pulled her hair, and hit her in the back of the head.
The woman told officers that she was concerned for her welfare so she was able to break free and get to the kitchen where she retrieved her loaded .380 Ruger pistol from her purse. She said that he responded by retrieving his pistol from the nightstand in their bedroom. She said that when he went into the bathroom she fled to a neighbor’s home to call for help.
When he spoke with officers, the male victim said that it had been his wife who became irate and began to assault him. He said he never struck her but that she had fallen while she was assaulting him.
The man told officers that he had only retrieve his handgun after his wife had pointed hers at him. He said that he went into the bathroom and locked the door “due to being in fear of her” and that he stayed inside the bathroom until he heard her leave.
The reporting officer conferred with the District Attorney’s office about the case. He reports that due to the fact that they had given conflicting statements, there were no witnesses, and there was no clear way to determine a primary aggressor, neither was taken into custody at that time.
