Traffic stop leads to drug, weapons charges being filed against Giles County men
Lawrenceburg Now
Drug and weapons charges were issued against two Giles County men on Saturday in the wake of a traffic stop conducted by a Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy.
Department reports show that the deputy initiated the traffic stop after noticing that a tan Chevrolet S-10 truck had a very loud exhaust when passing through the Weakley Creek/Community Road intersection. The deputy reports that the as the driver accelerated, the volume of the exhaust increased. The deputy followed the truck along Branch Road and reports that the driver failed to maintain a lane of travel.
After the deputy initiated the traffic stop, he reports that the driver signaled a turn three separate times without turning, then turned into a driveway. When the officer approached, the driver told him he did not have his license with him, but produced proof of insurance. He denied that there was anything illegal inside the truck, saying that he had come to speak with the resident. He was unable to give the resident’s name, but said that “he worked at the Ford dealership.” The resident told the officer that he did not know the men, nor did he work at the Ford dealership.
The deputy soon learned that the driver, identified as Timothy Boyd Rowe, 46, of 457 Monroe Road, Pulaski, had a revoked driver’s license. Rowe’s passenger was identified as fifty-nine year old William Kenneth Cruse, who also resides at 457 Monroe Road in Pulaski.
While searching the vehicle, the deputy reports finding plastic baggies containing what appeared to be methamphetamine and marijuana along with several pill bottles bearing Rowe’s name. The various pills seized were identified as gabepentin, cityalopram hydrobromide, oxycodone, acetaminophen and hxycodone, alprazolam, and vyvanse. In addition, the deputy reports finding a 9mm Glock 43 pistol inside the truck that had previously been reported as stolen out of Pulaski.
Both Rowe and Cruse were arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. The truck in which the pair was traveling was registered to a man who was incarcerated at that time. Rowe told deputies that he had purchased the truck from an acquaintance who claimed to be the inmate’s girlfriend, however he was unable to say when the purchase was made.
The deputy spoke with the inmate who reported that he did, in fact, own the truck and that he did not know Rowe or Cruse. He said that he had learned through acquaintances that his house had been broken into on more than one occasion during his incarceration and that “he was missing upwards of $50,000 worth of items.”
Once all of the information was collected, Cruse was booked under charges of theft of property and unlawful carry/possession of a firearm. Charges against Rowe included possession of a firearm during the commission or attempt to commit a dangerous felony, theft of property, simple possession of marijuana, and multiple counts of possession of a Schedule IV narcotic. He was also cited for violation of the muffler law and failure to maintain a lane of travel.
