Fraud Incidents Are Investigated By Local Law Enforcement
Lawrenceburg Now
Local law enforcement officers have been asked to investigate instances of fraud that were discovered by two victims on Monday.
A resident of Norton Road reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Monday that he had been targeted in a fraud incident involving the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The victim, age 76, reported that he had received a letter from SSA that referenced an online account that had been opened in his name. He said that he contacted the administration and that his account had been “locked”. He said two days later, he received a notification, acknowledging his change of address. He told officers that he had not submitted paperwork regarding a change of address. He, again, contacted SSA, and again had the account locked.
Investigation into the matter is continuing at the present time.
Also on Monday, a thirty-three year old resident of Highway 20 in Summertown reported to deputies that her credit card had been fraudulently used. She said that someone had used her Capital One Master Card to make two transactions at First Volunteer Bank in Summertown. The card was used on January 6 and January 7, resulting in losses totaling $566.
The second case remains under investigation, as well.
Anyone with knowledge about either case is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
