New Prospect Fire Department Working Toward Adding Second Station

Press release from the New Prospect Fire Department

    The members of the New Prospect Fire Department are proud to announce that we are adding a second fire station in our primary coverage area. The new station will be located in the Mars Hill Community on the property of Mars Hill Baptist Church.

The purpose of this station is to assist in providing a faster response to properties located on the North End of our fire protection district while also confirming insurance coverage at our Class 5 ISO rating to our entire coverage area. Before the addition of the Mars Hill station, a large amount of our fire protection district was not within five road miles of our fire station. Those properties not within five road miles of our fire station did not receive the Class 5 rating. They were issued a Class 10 rating by ISO.

    The Mars Hill Station is a partnership between the New Prospect Fire Department and Mars Hill Baptist Church. The church has graciously provided the property and an existing building to house a fire apparatus. Our department is providing a full service Class A pumper that will also be equipped with equipment for vehicle extrication and emergency medical response.

We will also be working together with Mars Hill Baptist to make changes to the existing structure to meet the needs of a fire station. Our department is in the process of purchasing an additional AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and additional vehicle rescue equipment for this station. We will not be receiving additional monies from the county government for this station. We will be providing this operation through our yearly fundraisers. We hope to have the new station fully operational within the next 30 to 60 days.

    We are very thankful for our friends at Mars Hill Baptist Church for their partnership in this project. Without the property and building that the church has provided, this service would not be possible. Above all we are thankful for God’s blessings and protection over our department, our families, and our community.
