Police officers arrest burglar while investigating suspicious vehicle
Lawrenceburg Now
Police officers responding to a suspicious vehicle call on Avon Street early Saturday apprehended a burglar inside of a home.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were dispatched on the call at around 12:30 a.m. They arrived to find the suspicious vehicle, a black Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, parked in front of a home. They checked the perimeter, then approached the home to find the front door was open. They announced their presence and entered the home to find Dustin Keith Gipson, 32, of 1660 Old Florence Road, inside.
Officers asked Gipson why he was inside the home. He told them that he was there to borrow a drill. He told officers that he and the resident had an agreement that he could borrow “whatever he wanted,” so long as he returned it. He said that he had messaged the resident on Facebook, but had received no response. He told them that he had gained entry through a garage door.
Officers explained to Gipson that the resident was actually incarcerated at that time and “unable to get Facebook messages or give him permission to enter his residence.” Also, they noted that a screwdriver had been wedged into the track of the garage door so that it could not be opened. They found that a nailed had been driven through the adjacent door, making it virtually impossible to open without the use of force.
Gipson was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of aggravated burglary and driving on a suspended license. Bond was set at $22,000.
Gipson has been assigned an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on February 2, 2017.
