Fireworks mask noise from New Year’s hit and run incident

Lawrenceburg residents who discovered extensive damage to one of their vehicles New Year’s morning told law enforcement officers that the sound of the crash had apparently been masked by fireworks.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to a home on Nixon Avenue shortly after 9:00 a.m. where the resident reported coming out to find damage to his 1999 Ford F150. Reports show that the damage was caused by another vehicle. The owner estimated damages to total $8,000.

The owner’s wife told officers that she had heard a “loud boom” shortly after midnight. She said that she had paid little attention to the sound because there had been so much noise from fireworks, and that she had attributed it to them.

Officers collected damaged parts from an unknown vehicle from the roadway. They are currently working to identify the person responsible. Anyone who has information about the matter should contact the police department at 931-762-2276.
