Spring Hill couple arrested during illegal drug transaction
Lawrenceburg Now
A tip received by local law enforcement officials led to the arrest of a Spring Hill couple during an illegal drug transaction that took place on New Year’s Eve, but not before the arresting officer was forced to engage in a foot chase.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department received information about a methamphetamine sell that had been arranged to take place in a parking lot on Highway 43 North at 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
Officers were able to work with a confidential informant who reported that the couple, with the names of Jeff and Amanda, would be driving a green Jeep Cherokee. The informant said that the couple had arranged to sell $180 worth of meth to a fictional person dubbed “Red” in the parking lot of Advanced Financial.
When a vehicle matching the description given entered the parking lot at the designated time, officers made contact with the driver, forty-three year old Charles Jeffery Oneal and his wife Amanda Oneal, both of 2013 Silverton Circle in Spring Hill.
The couple agreed to allow a search of their vehicle however officers report that as Charles Jeffery Oneal exited, he fled on foot. An officer gave chase, ordering him repeatedly to stop.
He reports that Oneal fell as he was rounding the corner of Sgt. Troy’s military store. He said that he ordered him to stay down and show his hands, but that Oneal got up and continued to run. At that point the officer used his taser in an attempt to subdue him, but he reports that Oneal again got to his feet and continued to run.
He administered a second five-second burst, but reports that it had little effect. He said that Oneal tore one of the leads from his body and began to flee once again. The officer reports that Oneal swung at him and that they became involved in a physical altercation. The officer was then able to restrain him and place him in handcuffs.
The officer conducted a search of Oneal’s vehicle and seized four syringes, one containing a clear liquid, into evidence. A field test was administered and he reports that the substance tested positive for meth.
Oneal was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated on charges that include possession of Schedule II narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and evading arrest. During the booking process they learned that Oneal had two outstanding warrants that had been issued through Williamson County.
Charles Jeffery Oneal is scheduled to answer the local charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 3, 2017. His bond was set at $11,000.
Reports show that Amanda Oneal was taken into custody and transported to the Maury County Jail where she, too, was incarcerated on an outstanding warrant.
