Man under influence of intoxicant assaults police officers
Lawrenceburg Now
An intoxicated man who was attempting to gain entry to a Lawrenceburg home last week reportedly assaulted police officers after he was transported for medical attention.
Initially, Lawrenceburg Police officers were dispatched to investigate when a man wearing no shirt or shoes attempted to gain entry to a Fourth Street home, scaring the residents inside. While they were en route, however, officers were notified that the man had fled on foot, heading toward North Locust Avenue. Officers arrived in the area to find the man walking in the center lane of the highway. They noted that the outside temperature at that time was around forty degrees.
Reports show that the man was “under the obvious influence of drugs”, had an altered mental status, was unaware of his surroundings, and was not able to tell emergency workers his name. He was subsequently transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg for medical care.
Officers report that they were able to briefly calm the man, identified as thirty-five year old Summertown resident James Michael Rose, but that he suddenly attempted to flee from the hospital room, charging two police officers. During the struggle Rose reportedly grabbed one of the officer’s taser, damaging it and causing injury to the officer.
Reports show that the second officer continued his attempts to subdue Rose. During that struggle Rose reportedly fell, causing the officer to fall along with him and strike his face on a door. The officer sustained minor injuries in the fall.
Reports show that the incident has resulted in charges being issued against Rose for the crimes of vandalism and destruction of city property. He has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on February 2, 2017.
