Intoxicated woman with young children in tow is arrested

Police officers took a local woman into custody during the weekend after finding that she was intoxicated while at a local business, with her young children in tow. Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to Tobacco and Beer For Less, 215 South Locust Avenue, at 3:44 p.m.

The complainant reported that the woman, identified as Stephanie Ann McKnight, 31, of 76 Olive Lane, was dragging the children along with her while she staggered around the store.

Reports show that when officers spoke with McKnight, she admitted that she had drunk a pint of whiskey before coming to the store, and that she had been driving. Officers noted that her speech was slurred, she was unsteady on her feet, and that she smelled of alcohol.

McKnight was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail where she was charged with public intoxication.

The father came to the scene and took custody of the children ages 2, 3, and 6. McKnight is scheduled to answer the charge in General Sessions Court on February 1st.
