Warrants Issued In Saturday Domestic Assault

Warrants were issued against a local man on Saturday after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a deputy was summoned to a home on Long Branch Road at around 5:40 p.m.

The female victim, age 45, reported that the assault had taken place when she attempted to take her boyfriend’s keys.

According to the victim her boyfriend, Johnny Taylor Lopp, age 48, of 59 Long Branch Road, had been consuming alcohol throughout the day. She said that when he attempted to get into his car and leave she tried to take his keys from him so that he could not drive while intoxicated.

The victim said that Lopp began swinging at her, striking her on the arm. She said that he choked her while taking his keys from her, then left. The deputy noted that the victim had sustained red marks on both her arm and neck.

Emergency Medical Service personnel were called to the scene. They rendered aid to the victim however she refused transport to a hospital.

As a result of their investigation deputies obtained warrants against Lopp, charging him with aggravated assault.
