Crash Leads To DUI Charge Against Driver

A crash that occurred along Bluff Drive early Thursday morning resulted in the driver being arrested on charges of DUI.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 106 Bluff Drive around 1:00 a.m. regarding a crash with injuries. They arrived to find the driver had left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.

The driver, a forty-four-year-old resident of Roberts Avenue, told officers she had been the sole occupant of the vehicle and that she was uninjured.

Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol about her person and indicate that when they requested her driver license and proof of insurance, she instead handed them a credit card.

When they questioned the driver she told officers she had consumed only a couple of drinks prior to driving, but admitted she had taken some Percocet. Officers found that she did possess a valid prescription but state she failed to perform satisfactorily on field sobriety tests.

While they were placing the woman under arrest officers report she “still did not know she had wrecked her car. She said it was just parked against the utility pole taking a break.”

The driver was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident where she was booked under charges of failure to maintain a proper lane of travel, first offense DUI, and violation of the financial responsibility law. She is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 5, 2010.
