Purse And Coat Snatched From Restaurant Patron

A Summertown woman reported to authorities Friday that her coat and purse had been snatched while she was eating at a Lawrenceburg restaurant.

The victim, age 72, reported to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department that she had been sitting at a table at McDonald’s on North Locust Avenue, when a man walked by, grabbed her purse and coat, then exited the restaurant.

The victim said that the man got into a gray, two-door Honda with three other males and drove away.

Restaurant officials reported that security footage of the incident was not clear enough to make identification possible.

The reporting officer was called back to the scene later to obtain additional information. An employee reported that with assistance of police officers on the night shift they had been able to identify the suspect.

Reports show that the suspect was contacted in Columbia and that he agreed to return the items. He reportedly dropped them off at a park on Brannon Street.

The victim inspected the items and reported that everything had been returned except for a gold necklace.

Investigation in the case is continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
