Arrest Made In Burglary Of Five Points Mill

Law enforcement officials report that an arrest has been made in connection with a burglary that occurred in early December at Five Points Mill.

According to a press release issued through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Friday, deputies were initially dispatched to 455 Five Points Road on December 3.

They found that the rear door had been pried open and a number of items stolen. Items taken included a laptop computer, 1000’ spool of wire, 12’ log chain, pocket knives, Kendall oil, flash lights, headlamps, and miscellaneous loose change.

While deputies and detectives were conducting an investigation at the scene, they report they were able to identify a potential suspect. They learned that the man had been found on the property and that he had been suspected of breaking into the mill in the past.

The following day detectives received a tip indicating that the stolen items had been spotted on the suspect’s 2 Box Road property.

Department officials report that at that time the suspect, Michael Keith Willis, age 34, was on probation. Investigators, along with a probation officer, made contact with Willis at his home.

They conducted a search of the property and report locating several items associated with the burglary. They report that during the search Willis confessed to committing a burglary at the mill in 2011.

Willis was subsequently jailed under two counts of burglary, two counts of theft or property over $500, and vandalism. He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 28, 2014.
