Neighbor Admits Taking Items From South Locust Home

A neighbor reportedly admitted to authorities that she had taken items from a South Locust Avenue home, saying that she had believed the home had been abandoned.

The resident reported to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department Tuesday that he had been away from the home since late November. He said that he returned to find both doors had been kicked in and, “Someone had stolen just about everything out of the home.”

The resident reported numerous items missing including 10 to 15 boxes of assorted tools, a cook stove, Amish-made cedar dresser, computer, drills, pots and pans, dishes, and two duffle bags full of combat gear. He estimated his loss to be around $2,500.

The resident told officers that he had spoken with his neighbor to determine whether she had noticed any suspicious activity and asked that they speak with her, as well.

When officers spoke with the woman, they report that she admitted she had taken pots and pans from the home because, “She thought the home had been left vacant.”

The neighbor was instructed to return all items taken. The matter currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
