Personal Property Stolen From Man’s Home During Trip

Law enforcement officers were asked to open an investigation after a Summertown man returned from a Thanksgiving trip to find that his home had been targeted by thieves.

The forty-nine year old victim told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had made a trip to Kentucky to visit with his grandkids.  He said when he returned to his Turnpike home he noticed that items had been stolen off of his front porch.

A large number of hand tools that had been stored in a large bread crate and a bucket were missing, along with a battery charger and skill saw. Although his shop vac had been stolen, the victim said the perpetrator had left the hose lying on the porch.

The victim told deputies that when he arrived home he found that his heating unit was not working. He discovered that the gas had been turned off at the propane tank, just outside of the house.

Investigation into the crime is currently on-going. Total loss was estimated to be $1,435.
