Officials Ready To Break Ground At Team Lawrence Commerce Park

Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham informed county leaders Tuesday that they are now ready to break ground for a spec building at Team Lawrence Commerce Park, located just north of the city.

“About a year ago,” Durham told members of the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners, “I came here to ask you for a piece of property. It has taken almost a full year to prepare to start digging there.”

County and city leaders have partnered to construct a spec building inside the industrial park in an effort to draw industry to the area.

Leaders have worked toward that goal for the past few years, indicating that construction of such a building would give the area a competitive advantage in landing new industry.

In the past Durham had explained, “We are in competition with other municipalities around us and the standard that industries are looking for in a building, we just don’t have here.”

Durham said that ground is to be broken on a parcel of land located at the U.S. Highway 43/County Farm Road intersection. “If it hadn’t been raining,” he said, “they would’ve already broken ground.”

While the county donated the property for the construction project, the city has secured the needed funding.

Durham explained that the winning bid for the project came in considerably lower than had been anticipated.

While they had estimated construction of the 60,000 square foot building would cost around $1.2 million, Saliba Contracting submitted the winning bid of $980,000.

“Hopefully we’ll see progress really soon,” Durham said, adding, “Hopefully I’ll be back real soon to ask you for another piece of property.”
