Big Gold Machine Selected To Perform At Prestigious Vanderbilt Festival

Officials with Lawrence County High School announced Monday that the Big Gold Machine has earned a rare honor in being selected to perform at a prestigious band festival to be held at Vanderbilt University in the spring.

Principal Michael Adkins issued an announcement stating, “It is with great pleasure we announce the Lawrence County High School Band has been selected to participate in the Tennessee Music Educators Association State Concert Festival.

“The band will travel to the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University in April, 2014 to perform in a non-competitive performance to showcase their achievements during the past year.

Bands who received the highest ratings at the 2013 district competitions earned invitations
to this concert.”

Students will perform on stage at the Blair School of Music, receive a clinic from some of the top music educators in the world, and enjoy the performances of the other participating ensembles.

"This is equivalent of a college football team getting an invite to a big bowl game, it is
that big of an honor," explained Aaron Evens, director of Instrumental and Vocal Music.

In addition, Adkins issued congratulations to band member Ben MacDonald for being selected to participate in the Mid-State Band. “Ben was 15th out of all saxophone auditions covering schools from all of Middle Tennessee,” he explained. “Ben is the first LCHS student in over 10 years to earn this honor.”

Band members will be working hard to prepare for the performance musically, but will also need to raise funds for transportation. In addition, they hope to purchase formal concert wear to look their best on stage.

Anyone interested in helping to support their efforts is urged to contact Evens at 931-762-3923.
