LHS Virtual Enterprise Students Shine

The Loretto High School Virtual Enterprises, International™ firm, The Animal Kingdom, Inc., attended the 6th Annual Tennessee Virtual Enterprise Trade Fair in Pigeon Forge, TN on November 19th.

This year’s event was very exciting with over 95 booths representing schools from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Illinois, and Michigan.

The Tennessee Trade Fair has doubled in size since last year, and the Music Road Convention Center was bustling with hundreds of VE students networking, buying, and selling.

The Animal Kingdom, Inc. was rewarded for all of their hard work and preparation by receiving the following awards: 1st Place – Business Card Design, 1st Place – Flyer Design, and 3rd Place – Impact Marketing Mini Billboard Design.

The Animal Kingdom, Inc. is a virtual business specializing in the sale of pets and pet-related products. Attending the event were LHS students Collin Hooper, Ally McDow, Emma Duplantis, Samantha Beckman, Elizabeth Brown, Rhett Kennedy, Ana Rico, Paige Wilcoxson, Holly Vanderford, Amanda Brown, Emily Cothren, Sarah Methvin, Holly Franklin, Kylee Reed, Kelsie White, and their VE Instructor, Ms. Mary Pack. Also attending were LHS Business Technology Teacher, Mrs. Roberta Niedergeses, and parents, Gary and Anita McDow.

This year, the firm also entered another competition for the first time. The Business Plan Competition consists of the composition of a written business plan that includes financial statements of the business, along with an oral PowerPoint presentation of the plan.

Written plans are submitted and judged by people in the business field, as are the oral presentations. The team traveled to Savannah, TN to compete in the Regional Business Plan Competition on November 7th.

While at the Trade Fair in Pigeon Forge, the team was awarded 1st Place for the Western Region, and will compete at the state level with three other teams for a chance to present their plan in New York City in April.

The LHS Business Plan Team consists of Collin Hooper, Ally McDow, Elizabeth Brown, and Holly Vanderford.
