Breast Cancer Awareness Events Help Maury Regional Health Care Foundation Assist Local Women

A series of events held during the month of October raised awareness of breast cancer while supporting the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation’s efforts to assist local women in need.
Together, the events resulted in more than $11,000 for the foundation’s Women’s Center Fund, according to Foundation Executive Director Joe Kilgore.
KD’s Hope, led by Columbia breast cancer survivor Kim Duff, raised more than $4,500 through a number of activities, including a concert by Dilemma and Dogs Go for Chemo 5K event.
A Halloween costume party held in Lawrenceburg and organized by Maury Regional Medical Center Women’s Center staff member Amandia Long raised $3,300 for the foundation’s Women’s Center Fund.
The Christians Stepping for a Cure event led by Debbra Pillow resulted in $1,305 being donated to the foundation.
Several other breast cancer awareness events raised more than $1,700 for the Women’s Center Fund, with donations ranging from $50 to $850.
Those events included fundraisers by the Frito Lay employees Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) program, Kickin’ for the Cure organized by Deborah Ethridge, Motivation of Music held at White Springs Baptist Church, a Zumbathon and a Pink Car Smash held at Stan McNabb Ford in Lewisburg with the assistance of Mike Martin Towing.
“Through their donations, these individuals and groups will make a tremendous difference in the lives of many women in our own community,” said Kilgore.
The Women’s Center Fund assists cancer patients with expenses such as wigs, headpieces and camisoles, funds mammograms for patients without means and supports the After Breast Cancer program of the YMCA.
