Marijuana, Meth Seized During Warrant Service

Marijuana and methamphetamine were seized and two people arrested Monday while deputies were attempting to serve a warrant to a local woman.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies report making their way to 405 Oak Street in Lawrenceburg at around 9:30 a.m. to serve a warrant to resident Melynda Annette Barnett, age 29.

While speaking with Barnett, deputies report noticing syringes lying in plain view, atop a bed. They report that, when questioned, Barnett handed over a red box containing a small amount of marijuana.

Deputies asked a second woman at the residence, twenty-eight year old Nikki Michele Lovell, whether she was in possession of any illegal substances.

They report that she repeatedly asked to go to the bathroom, but after continued questioning she handed over a plastic bag that she had stashed in her bra. The bag containing a green leafy substance determined to be marijuana.

When a female deputy checked Lovell’s bra for additional contraband she found a second bag concealed inside her bra. The second bag contained a white powder that field tested positive for meth.

Deputies also found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in a pocket of a jacket worn by Lovell. They report that they checked a backpack that Barnett handed over to be left at the home, and found inside a plastic bag containing a crystal substance that also tested positive for meth.

Both Lovell and Barnett were transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where they were incarcerated for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and possession of a controlled substance, meth. Barnett was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
