Woman Assaulted After Turning Off Television

A Gimlet Road resident was arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting his wife after she turned off the television set.

Tom Wayne Beecham, age 64, was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center around 11:00 p.m.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Beecham’s home, 4474 Gimlet Road, after his wife reported the assault.

The victim, age 64, reported that she had gone into the bedroom to speak with Beecham while he was lying on the bed.

She said that while she was attempting to turn down the volume she inadvertently turned off the television, causing her husband to become irate.

She told deputies that he slapped her across the left side of her neck and face. Deputies noted that she had sustained a large red mark on her neck.

When they confronted Beecham, deputies report that he admitted he had slapped his wife, “Because he was tired of hearing her gripe.”

Beecham was booked on one count of domestic assault and held under a bond of $1,000. He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General System on January 7, 2013.
