Deputy Stops Driver Wearing Only Boots And A Jacket

A deputy on patrol Monday evening reports that during a traffic stop he found that the driver was dressed only in boots and an unzipped jacket.

The deputy reports that he noticed that the driver appeared to be impaired while he was on routine patrol just north of Lawrenceburg. He reports that driver Donald Wayne Staggs, age 44, of Ethridge, was driving erratically and failing to maintain a lane of travel.

When he approached the truck he reports that Staggs, “Had his hands between his legs trying to cover his private areas.”

The deputy asked Staggs why he was not wearing any clothing except for his boots and jacket, but notes no response.

He indicates that Staggs began fumbling with his wallet, searching for his driver’s license. He initially handed the deputy his medical insurance card, but was able to produce his license on the second attempt.

Staggs told the deputy that he had gone to purchase a twelve pack of beer and was headed home. The deputy noted that the beer was lying on the front seat. When questioned, he told the deputy that he had consumed around ten beers prior to leaving his home.

Staggs was placed under arrest on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant. He was transported to Crockett Hospital for a blood draw, then to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration.

Once at the jail the deputy notes that he quickly, “Found Mr. Staggs some clothes.”

Staggs was also issued citations for various traffic violations.
