Woman Defrauded During Puppy Purchase

On Friday, deputies investigated a matter in which a local woman's money was fraudulently taken while she was attempting to purchase puppies.

The thirty-nine year old victim reported to Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies that she had made arrangements to purchase two teacup Yorkshire terriers from an individual who had listed them on CraigsList.

She said that she had communicated with the woman by email, and that she had committed to purchasing two puppies.

Under their agreement the victim was to make payment through cash cards at Walmart and the puppies would then be shipped to her.

Once payment had been made, the victim said she was contacted by Action Pet Express regarding shipment. They informed her that she would need to pay additional fees in order to have the puppies shipped.

When the victim refused, they informed her that, "She could be charged more if she didn't  because they would then have to quarantine the dogs."

Authorities are continuing to look into the matter.
