State Awards Funding To City Of Loretto For Tornado Early Warning Sirens

The City of Loretto has officially been awarded a Community Development Grant to assist in the construction of a tornado early warning siren, State Representative Barry Doss (R–Leoma) and Governor Bill Haslam announced earlier today.

The project funding comes after months of work by state and local officials to obtain the money required to build the important severe weather warning system.

“The installation of an early storm warning system is a wise and effective use of state funding because it will help save lives and prevent injuries during severe weather incidents,” said Representative Barry Doss.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to assist in securing this funding and look forward to seeing our community even better prepared for emergency situations that may arise in the future.”

In total, the city will receive $133,455 in funding to assist with the construction project.

"When I was elected, I made it my top priority to improve the safety of Loretto's citizens," said Loretto Mayor Fred Simbeck. "I so appreciate the funding of this project by the State. It will protect the safety of our citizens and give them peace of mind that they'll receive ample warning when severe weather is on the way."

Chris Jackson represents the Loretto area as Second District County Commissioner.

"On behalf of the citizens of the 2nd District, I want to thank Representative Doss, Mayor Simbeck and the City of Loretto for all of their hard work on this important project.

As large scale violent storms become more prevalent and more unpredictable, it is vital that citizens have an early warning system like this in place. Public safety is a top priority of all of ours and we feel that the installation of these sirens will go a long way in making our community a safer place for all citizens."

Barry Doss serves as a member of the House Health Committee and House Business & Utilities Committee. He lives in Leoma and represents District 70, which includes Lawrence and Giles Counties. He can be reached by email at Rep.Barry.Doss@capitol.tn.gov or by calling 1-800-449-8366, ext. 17476.
