Vandalism Results In Thousands In Damages

An Ethridge resident reported that she incurred thousands of dollars’ worth of damages when her property was targeted by vandals.

The victim, age 56, reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Friday that vandals had damaged her 1993 Prevost Motor Coach Bus and her 1996 Peterbilt truck.

Reports show that both vehicles had been shot several times with what appeared to be a rifle. Deputies report that the vandals shot a unit on top of the bus and had shot several times along both sides and the front. Deputies note that the vandal inflicted “severe damage.”

They noted that at least thirty rounds had been fired at the bus. Some of the rounds, they said, penetrated into the inside, causing severe damage to the interior, as well.

Deputies indicated that both the front and rear windows had been shot out of the truck, a driver side mirror had been broken, and three rounds had been fired into the driver’s door.

The victim said that damages to both vehicles totaled a minimum of $53,000. She told deputies that vandalism has been an on-going problem at the Weakley Loop property.

Although they canvassed the area, deputies report they could not find a single casing.

The case has been assigned for further review through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
